Five things to do in Kent this summer

With the UK experiencing one of the hottest summers on record, now is the perfect time to get out and about. If you’re lucky enough to live in Kent, you’ll probably already know how much it has to offer. If you’re looking for some great days out this summer, here are five ideas to get you started.

1. Absorb the culture in Canterbury

Canterbury is a beautiful cathedral city. Its rich history dates back to the medieval times and has been immortalised by poet Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. Wander through the narrow streets and enjoy a meal or a drink at one of Canterbury’s many pubs and restaurants.

2. Get inspired at Chartwell

Chartwell is a country house in the Kent countryside and is famous for being Winston Churchill’s home. A Grade I Listed building, it is now owned by the National Trust as welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Chartwell also has a role in the glazing industry. The colour Chartwell Green, named after the paint Churchill used around his home is a popular choice for window, door, and conservatory frames.

3. Stroll along the White Cliffs of Dover

Marking the south-easterly most point of Britain and the closest location to France, the White Cliffs of Dover are a distinctive part of the Kent coastline. On a bright sunny day, you can enjoy spectacular views across the English channel and perhaps catch a glimpse of the French coast.

4. Sample some Whitstable oysters

Whitstable oysters were once famous around the world. Today they are celebrated at the annual festival every summer. When visiting Whitstable, take in the atmosphere at the working harbour and relax on the sandy and shingle beaches adjacent to the harbour.

5. Shop till you drop at Bluewater
