We use electricity so much in everyday lives including lighting, cooking, cleaning, heating, washing and charging devices. Energy provides us with the electricity, water and heat that we need within our homes for essential comfortable living. Of course energy consumption changes throughout the year and in the winter we’re likely to use more when we need to turn on the heating and switch lights on earlier, but this can be managed to get the most out of what we use.

By installing double glazed windows you can prevent heat from escaping through your windows too. Normal single pane windows allow heat to escape quite quickly as glass is a good conductor of heat, but with double glazing two panes of glass are separated by a gas pocket which is a poor conductor of heat. By installing double glazed uPVC windows you’re ensuring that heat doesn’t escape thus resulting in you needing to use less energy to heat your home.
You can also improve your home’s energy efficiency by double glazing any doors which are glass. It is common for people to have glass patio doors opening out into the garden, or glass doors leading from the kitchen or back of the house into utility rooms, gardens or alleyways. As these doors have a larger surface area than windows if they aren’t double glazed uPVC windows then a lot of heat can be lost through them.
Glazing is one of the core areas of energy efficiency within properties and a number of new properties are installed with double glazing, or sometimes triple glazing alongside window insulation and other energy saving items. If properties are created to be energy efficient in the first place it’s unlikely that you’ll need to spend money on maintaining it until a lot further down the line. By spending a little more cash in the first place you’ll save money in the long run.
Double glazed windows are a hot topic with a number of UK organisations including The Energy Saving Trust and BFRC who promote the benefits of energy efficiency throughout the house by setting high standards and regulations throughout the double glazing industry. Energy saving isn’t all about money though as eco-friendly homes contribute towards a greener environment which produces a smaller carbon footprint. By using less energy and fuel, less CO2 is produced which is a contributor towards global warming. As well as helping with energy consumption double glazed windows offer greater noise insulation which can help especially if you live in a noisy area.
