Composite doors are so popular these days, with more and more people opting for a composite door when replacing their homes front door.  There are many reasons for this popularity, including the strength and durability of the doors.  One of the great things about composite doors is their low maintenance.  They are so easy to keep clean and require little upkeep, making them an ideal choice for homeowners.

Previously, wooden doors would be the most popular option when it came to purchasing a replacement front door.  Wooden doors require a little extra love and attention than a modern composite door, with the wooden build needing painting and treating, to keep it in perfect condition.  Without this additional care, your wooden door could be prone to rotting or even warping out of shape.  Composite doors don’t need to be painted or treated and with a little light washing every now and again can be kept looking as good as new.

How to clean composite doors

The pristine look of your composite door can be kept in place by giving them a quick clean just once each month.  You can do this as often as you like depending on how dirty your door gets, but we find a quick clean once a month will keep your door looking as good as new.

Cleaning your Door

1. To clean the door itself, all you need is a bucket of warm soapy water and a nice, soft cloth. (Don’t use anything abrasive like a brillo pad or rough sided sponge as this may scratch your finish). The warm, soapy water is all that is required to remove any grit and grime that may have built up on your door.

2. The warm, soapy water can now be used on the frame of the door. Be sure to open the door to get all around the edges of the frames and get any of that concealed dirt that may affect the closing of your door if allowed to build up.

3. Now use a fresh, soft cloth and bucket of warm, soapy water to clean any glass in your door. Dry the glass with another soft, dry cloth and apply a household glass cleaner if you feel the glass needs something a little extra.

4. Lastly, with a fresh bucket of soapy water, clean your door handles, letterbox and any other accessories with a soft cloth.

5. Once done, you can dry the entire door with a clean, dry cloth and stand back and admire your handy work.

These five simple steps can keep your composite door looking pristine with little effort.  There are no fancy, expensive cleaning products required, just a simple bucket of warm, soapy water and a household soft cloth. Anybody can follow these steps to keep their door looking as good as new, with little cost and a little elbow grease.  This easy maintenance is one of the many selling points of a modern composite door.

Recovering a faded composite door using polish substitutes

Over time, composite doors may lose their colour. This is due to the corrosive properties of weather types like rain and sunlight over very long time periods. There is no such thing as composite polish, but there are multi-surface plastic restorers that be used on composite doors to revivify colour and lustre.

Substances like Polytrol are deep-penetrating oils which rejuvenate the door’s original pigments, thus restoring its colour. Polytrol can be applied with a brush or cloth, just like polish.
